Mission
To ensure that the values of a diverse, creative, healthy and vibrant rural/agricultural community are achieved through good governance, community engagement and advocacy.
Goals for the next 4 years:
- First order of business will be to create an economic/development & tourism committtee made up of Public and council members. This would have semi-annual public meeting sessions along with budget support for investment and promotion of Grey Highlands.
- We need to have more community sessions of our official plan review to inform and gather further input with real dialogue from the public. We will be looking for suggestions on how we better provide planning to our customers along with a high level of importance for a community committee, set with the task of promoting and setting the stage for investment and development.
- Continue to roll out the strategic plan which includes town hall meetings to gather community data and to communicate important information. Our goal will be to create an economic plan.
- We need to develop strategies for transportation corridors and future opportunities that allow effective, safe and timely movement of people for school, work, business and pleasure. One concern I have is the closing of Simcoe County Road 91, a major corridor between Grey and Simcoe County. We also need to update our 2006 Roads and Bridge Needs Study.
- Complete the Master Service Plan for the future growth of Grey Highlands which include a new water tower for Markdale to replace the aging stand pipe in operation today. Once complete, Council needs to strongly advocate the Provincial and Federal Government to make the investment for our future economic growth. With my experience and contacts, I will work towards making this possible.
- Setup a task force to examine the current and future needs of our aging population along with creating opportunities for our youth to remain in our community. The task force will bring back recommendations for council.
As defined by the Municipal Act, the responsibility of the Leadership of the Mayor will be to work with the team of Council to bring forward consensus building discussions, new ideas and direction to staff so that the goals that are laid out in our mission statement will be achieved.
I am committed to this and with my experience I feel will move Grey Highlands Council forward toward the future.
What I hope to achieve for the next 4 years:
- To continue to advocate for the new Markdale Hospital
- To ensure the spending of tax dollars with a prudent & conscientious approach.
- To make decisions that are in the best interest of all residents of Grey Highlands.
- To develop a strong communication link between Grey Highlands and Grey County.
- To represent the interest of Grey Highlands first at the County.
- To continue to enhance communication
- To continue to improve customer services
- To maintain sustainable and principle growth
- To promote community & economic development
- To provide opportunity for employment for all ages
- To continue to support and enhance recreation
- To work with the environment and promote the natural beauty
